¶ Atlantic Ocean Random Routing RNAV Area (AORRA)
The AORRA is the volume of airspace between FL290-FL410 inclusive within the Atlantico, Accra, Comodoro Rivadavia, Dakar, Dakar Oceanic, Ezeiza, Johannesburg Oceanic, Luanda and Montevideo FIRs.
Flights operating within the AORRA shall enter and exit via chartered gates

¶ Standard procedures
- The preferred method for ATC COMM is through CPDLC.
- Since HF is not simulated in our software, the assigned VHF frequency will be used upon ATC request or in case of any failure.
- If CPDLC is not possible, text messages will be accepted.
- SELCAL check is not necessary in SBAO, however it’s also not simulated.
- ATC may instruct aircraft to MONITOR the VHF frequency but the pilot is not required to call.
- English must be used, local language is not allowed.
- Pilots should advise ATC immediately if unable to comply with any clearance or instruction.
- SBAO does not require Oceanic Clearance.
- Handoff will be made by another ATC asking the pilot to LOGON CPDLC ID SBAO or text mode only.
- On first contact pilots shall send a position report according to the ATIS.
- Mach number Technique may be applied.
- SLOP (Strategic Lateral Offset Procedures) is permitted.
¶ Coordination
Coordination with: the ACC/sectors of AZ, CW, RE must start at least 15 minutes before the lateral limit.
Aircraft must be transferred in the transfer zone according to the table below:

¶ Separation
a) All aircraft in oceanic airspace will have a mandatory minimum separation of 1000 feet in RVSM airspace and 50nm or 10 min.
b) Separation will be provided through position and estimated reports.
¶ Mandatory position reports
Position reporting shall be required at:
- Entry/Exit gate
- 10W, 15W, 20W, 30W, 40W, 45W and 50W
- At any other position required by ATC
